Australian Pups and Handlers

Our Story: From Competition to Community
The organisation today known as Australian Pups and Handlers Incorporated (A-PAH) began with a bold vision in 2015. Founded by Ash (Pup Tycho), the Australian Pup and Handler Competition (APHC) was conceived as more than just a titleholder contest — it was created to uplift and unify the pup play community across Australia. At its core, the event championed three values: non-profit principles, full inclusivity of gender and sexuality, and a spirit of teamwork and unity.
The inaugural APHC was designed not only to celebrate individual titleholders but to offer social events, educational workshops, and opportunities for new leaders to gain experience in hosting community events. From the outset, the competition rotated annually between host states and was managed by a three-tiered production team to ensure sustainability and mentorship.

Growth and Incorporation
As APHC gained national recognition and participation grew, it became clear that a more formal structure was needed to support its mission and expand its reach. In October 2023, the production team took the decision to expand APHC into A-PAH and become a fully incorporated association. A-PAH was formally incorporated on 16 April 2025.
This shift marked a transition from being a singular event to a nationally structured body dedicated to broader goals:
- Supporting all aspects of the Pup and Handler lifestyle in Australia
- Creating inclusive, safe spaces for social and educational engagement
- Facilitating events year-round across the country
- Collaborating with other community groups to grow a stronger, united community
How A-PAH Operates Today
A-PAH now runs under a formal constitution and is governed by a management committee, which includes roles such as President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Elections are held at each Annual General Meeting (AGM), and all members can participate in shaping the direction of the association.
Key features of our operations include:
- Member-Based Governance: Membership is open to individuals, clubs, and corporate supporters. Members can vote, propose initiatives, and help guide the organization.
- Annual Flagship Event: The APHC continues to be the central national event, now run under the incorporated structure, maintaining its educational and community-driven roots.
- Year-Round Activity: A-PAH Inc. supports social events, educational programming, and advocacy efforts across Australia.
- Transparency and Accountability: Financial reports and meeting minutes are shared in accordance with our constitution. We remain firmly not-for-profit, with all proceeds reinvested into the community.

Looking Forward
A-PAH remains committed to the founding spirit of the APHC — a community-owned, inclusive, and evolving platform. While we honour our traditions, we continue to adapt to the needs of the diverse pup and handler community across Australia. Whether you're new to the lifestyle or a longtime participant, we welcome you to be part of our growing story.
Our constitution includes a special class of membership for clubs and A-PAH has begun the process of reaching out to the state-based Pup and Handler Clubs who have traditionally supported and been part of APHC. It is our hope that we can strengthen our partnership with clubs around Australia as we move into this exciting new phase.
